Day 3 @ Grandma Grandpa's house

Day 3
  • Grandma let Canaan pick an Iris from the yard (she's holding the yellow flower in the first photo).  Canaan said she got it for me, but she never let me have it.
  • One of my parents' friends met us so Canaan could ride his horses.  She was THRILLED!  She got to ride Toby and Sally.  She rode Sally bareback.
  • While Canaan rode the horses, Jude hung out in the tack room.
  • After riding the horses, we went to Medi Park where Canaan fed the ducks.  Grandma didn't have any old bread so we tried Cheerios.  The birds especially liked the cereal.
  • After these adventures, we enjoyed some Rudy's BBQ...yum!

Day 2 @ Grandma & Grandpa's house

The run down of day 2 at Grandma & Grandpa's house...
  • Canaan enjoyed swinging in the hammock.  Her eyes are closed because the sun was so bright.  She's not used to that in Seattle, you know.
  • She enjoyed tromping through the garden while Grandpa hung his flag.
  • Jude hung out just like day 1...he's a good lounger.
  • We went swimming at WTAMU's lazy river/swimming pool.
  • We witnessed the massive amount of moths while in Texas.  Canaan LOVES bugs for some reason.  Every time she would see a moth, she would tell one of us, "I need to show you something."  She was not afraid of them at all and even picked up a few.

Day 1 @ Grandma & Grandpa's house

April 30th we loaded up and flew to Grandma & Grandpa's house in Texas.  It was a long day of travel, but the kids did terrific.  Canaan enjoyed watching movies on the iPad and Jude was happy to be eating and being held the whole time.  I was anxious about the long travel (3 flights, 1 plane change, 8 hours between takeoff of 1st plane and landing at final destination) and was so thankful it went so well.

On our first day at Grandma & Grandpa's house, Canaan was excited to pet Miss Peachy Sue who lives at their house.  From the moment she heard there was a horse at their house, she couldn't wait to pet and ride her.  She wasn't able to ride Miss Peachy Sue though as she hasn't been ridden in a long time.

Next, Canaan enjoyed watering Grandma's flowers.  This girl loves to play with water in any fashion.

Canaan also enjoyed riding on the golf cart, which she called a tractor.  Grandpa gave her rides every day we were in town.

While Canaan was out and about, Jude hung out on the play mat, swing, bouncy seat, and in everyone's laps.

Jude is 5 months!

I cannot believe this guy is 5 months old!  It has gone by so quickly.  Jude is a happy guy...unless he is hungry, has a dirty/wet diaper, or is sleepy.  He really likes for someone to be paying him attention and talking to him.  His smile is priceless.  He is obviously a good eater but gets distracted when Daddy or Canaan come into the room while he's eating.  Jude is very interested in Canaan.  Canaan will sing to Jude when he's upset (sometimes).  When she does, Jude will generally stop crying and look for her.  She brings a smile to his face.  Jude does not like tummy time.  I have not been good about making him spend time on his tummy.  He may never learn to crawl or roll over because he can't lift his head for long.  He is a sweet boy and we love him to pieces!

the Tulip Festival

We drove to the tulip festival today. It takes place each year during the month of April. I have wanted to see the tulips since I saw Melinda's photos several years ago. Today was our last chance to go this year so Matthew loaded up the car with strollers and a picnic lunch while I got ready this morning. We got a late start and sat in a lot of traffic but really enjoyed our day outside once we got to the tulip farms. The flowers were beautiful!

After visiting the tulip farm, we drove to the water (not sure if it was the sound or the ocean) and had a picnic lunch at Seafarers' Memorial Park in Anacortes. By that time, the sun went behind the clouds, but we still enjoyed spending the day outside. We saw boats, saw some kids having model sailboat races, had a view of the mountains, and Matthew taught Canaan how to throw rocks into the water.

Walking on Sunshine

Today was a beautiful day! The sun was out and the temperature was around 60. It was fabulous! We made our way to a park for fresh air and sunshine. We had a picnic, Max enjoyed playing fetch, and Canaan enjoyed the playground.
I tried to get a picture of Canaan holding Jude...this was the best I got. She wasn't too sure about holding him so he's just laying on her.

8 weeks

Jude is already 8 weeks old! His two month appointment is next week. I am very curious how much he weighs as it seems he has grown a lot. He is definitely a good eater and doesn't appear to have the food issues Canaan had early on. I hope that continues.
  • still an easy-going, happy baby - he only gets upset when he has a dirty diaper or is hungry
  • will take a pacifier and enjoys sucking on it but cannot hold onto it for long - I am hoping he either figures it out or will start sucking his thumb soon (I can't remember when Canaan finally discovered her thumb.)
  • wearing 0 to 3 month clothing
  • wearing size 1 Huggies Little Snugglers diapers
  • goes through several outfits each day - I don't remember this happening with Canaan
  • has started smiling which melts our hearts
  • enjoys laying flat to stretch out
  • enjoys the bouncy seat and swing
  • has been sleeping anywhere from 4 to 7 hours at night - I generally only get up with him once during the night.
  • makes a lot of noise, seems to always be grunting or squeaking
  • doesn't stand a chance staying awake in his car seat so far

Canaan at 8 weeks in 2009

Canaan is very sweet to Jude. She makes sure we know when he's crying. She will try to give him the pacifier and gets in his face to say hello. She is not as curious these days when we change his diaper. And generally she leaves him alone and does her own thing.
